The SiteGPT iPhone app lets you answer visitors from your phone. You can read your inbox, reply, take over conversations, work with leads, check your usage, and get push notifications. The app does not replace the dashboard. You still set up and change your chatbots in the dashboard at sitegpt.ai. See What the app does not do.

Before you start

  • Plan: the app is included on the Growth plan and above. See Plans and limits. Team members that someone invited to a chatbot can sign in on any plan.
  • Accounts that cannot sign in: an account that is only on the Starter plan, or that has no plan, sees the For team accounts screen. See Troubleshooting.
  • Role: every role can use the full app. Agents, Managers, Admins, and Super Admins can all read, reply, take over, resolve, tag, and star conversations. They can all star, archive, and delete leads.
  • Device: an iPhone with iOS 18 or later. The app does not run on iPad. The app is in English only.
  • Price: the app is free. There are no purchases in the app.
  • Download: get the app from the App Store at sitegpt.ai/ios.

Use the same email address that you use for the SiteGPT dashboard. The app has no sign-up option.
1

Enter your email

Open the app. On the Answer your visitors from anywhere screen, type your email address.
2

Ask for a code

Select Email me a code. SiteGPT sends a 6-digit code to your email address. The email subject is “Your SiteGPT sign-in code”.
3

Enter the code

On the Check your email screen, type the 6 digits. The app signs you in when you type the last digit. There is no button to select. The code is valid for 10 minutes.
4

Allow notifications

After your first sign-in, iOS asks if SiteGPT can send notifications. Allow them to get push notifications.
If the code does not arrive, wait for the countdown Resend code in to end. After 1 minute, select Resend code. A new code replaces the old code. To use a different address, select Wrong email? Go back. If you leave the code screen, the first screen shows Already have a code? Enter it for the same address. Select it to go back to the code screen. You stay signed in until you sign out.

Find a conversation

The app has four tabs at the bottom: Inbox, Leads, Usage, and You. The tabs hide while a conversation is open. The Inbox tab shows the conversations of one chatbot. The data is live. New conversations and messages show without a refresh.
  1. To change the chatbot, select the chip with the chatbot name at the top of Inbox. The Chatbots sheet opens. It lists every chatbot that you are a member of.
  2. Select a chatbot. A check mark shows the active chatbot.
  3. Select a filter:
  1. Select a conversation to open it.
In All, the conversations are in three sections: Needs you, You’re handling, and Handled by AI. You’re handling has the conversations that your team took over or answered. Handled by AI has the other open conversations. Each row shows the visitor name, the last message, and the time. A dot shows that the conversation is unread. A badge shows Needs you, You’re in, or Resolved. Visitors without a name show as “Visitor #” and 4 characters. When a chatbot has a conversation with the Needs you badge, the Inbox tab shows a dot. The app opens the newest chatbot first. It does not remember the chatbot that you selected after you close the app. Select the search icon and type in Search name, message, or tag. The search looks at the visitor name and email, the last message, the conversation title, and tags. The search covers only the conversations that the app has loaded. The app shows up to 200 recent conversations per chatbot. To find older conversations, use Chat History in the dashboard. See Review conversations.

Reply and take over

For how AI mode and human mode work, see Conversations and handoff. The top of the conversation shows its state: AI handling, Needs you, You’re driving, or Resolved.
1

Take over

Open the conversation. At the bottom, select Take over conversation. Until you do this, the AI keeps answering.
2

Write your reply

Type your message in the Reply to field. The field shows the visitor name.
3

Send

Select the send arrow.
4

Give the conversation back or close it

Select Back to AI to let the AI answer again. Or select Resolve to close the conversation.
  • Replies take over. A reply always puts the conversation in human mode. This is also true for a reply from a notification.
  • Take over works like the dashboard. Take over conversation does the same as Take over the chat in Chat History. The AI stops, and an answer that the AI is writing stops. The visitor sees “A human agent has joined the conversation” and cannot switch back to the AI. See Take over the chat. This needs app version 1.0.3 or later.
  • Where the reply goes. The app sends replies the same way as Chat History in the dashboard. See Reply to visitors and take over conversations.
  • Back to AI. The visitor sees “Continuing with AI while waiting for human support”. The AI answers the next message.
  • Reopen. A resolved conversation shows Reopen at the bottom. Select it to open the conversation again.
  • Drafts. If you leave a conversation before you send, the app keeps your text for that conversation.
  • Length. A reply can have up to 20,000 characters.
  • Send errors. If the reply does not send, the app shows “Couldn’t send. Check your connection and try again.” Your text goes back into the field. Send it again.
The conversation shows visitor messages on the left. AI answers and your team’s replies show on the right. AI answers have an AI label. If the visitor rated an answer, a thumbs up or thumbs down shows. A submitted lead form shows as a Lead captured block. The app shows up to the latest 500 messages of a conversation.

Organize conversations

In the Inbox list:
  • Star: swipe right on a row, then select Star or Unstar. Starred conversations show in Important.
  • Resolve or reopen: swipe left, then select Resolve or Reopen.
  • Read or unread: swipe left, then select Read or Unread.
  • Undo: after you star or resolve, a message with Undo shows for a short time.
  • Long press: press and hold a row for Mark resolved or Reopen, Star or Remove star, and Mark read or Mark unread.
When you open a conversation, the app marks it as read. In an open conversation, select the star button to star it. Select … for more actions:
  • Mark resolved or Reopen
  • Mark unread
  • Edit tags: the Tags sheet lists the chatbot’s tags. Select the tags you want, then select Save. You can only choose tags that already exist. To create a tag, use Chat History in the dashboard. See Review conversations.
  • Visitor details: the Visitor sheet shows the visitor name, when the visitor was first seen, and the email, phone, and Started on page. Select the copy button to copy the email or phone.

Work with leads

The Leads tab shows the leads of one chatbot. It has the same chatbot chip as Inbox. Leads are grouped under Today, Yesterday, or a date. The app loads up to 200 leads per chatbot.
  • Star: swipe right on a lead, then select Star or Unstar.
  • Archive: swipe left, then select Archive or Unarchive.
  • Delete: swipe left, then select Delete.
Delete removes the lead at once. The app does not ask you to confirm, and you cannot undo it.
Select a lead to open the Lead sheet. It shows when the lead was captured, the email, phone, Captured on page, and custom fields. Select the copy button to copy the email or phone. Select View conversation to open the conversation in Inbox. This button shows only when the conversation is loaded in the app. You can also star the lead or select Archive lead in the sheet. For all lead tasks, such as export, use the dashboard. See Manage leads.

Check usage

The Usage tab is a read-only summary.
  • Messages card: the messages used this month and the monthly limit. It also shows how many messages used GPT-4.
  • Knowledge base card: the training status of your content. It shows Ready, Training, or Needs attention, and the number of documents that are Trained, Pending, and Failed.
For full usage details and how messages are counted, see Manage your plan and billing and Plans and limits.

Get push notifications

Push notifications go to the chatbot owner and to every team member of the chatbot. To choose which pushes this iPhone gets, go to You > Notifications. Each setting applies to this device only.
  • Reply from the lock screen. Press and hold a Handover requested push. Select Reply, type your reply, and select Send. The reply takes over the conversation. Select Take over to open the app and take over.
  • App open. When the app is open, a push shows as a short banner at the top of the app. Tap it to open the conversation or lead.
  • HIPAA workspaces. Pushes leave out visitor names and message text. They still show the chatbot name. See HIPAA.
  • No badge. The app icon does not show a count.
For all email and push alerts, see Choose who gets notified.

What the app does not do

Use the dashboard at sitegpt.ai for these tasks: The app also cannot send attachments.

Sign out

Go to You and select Sign out at the bottom. The app signs you out at once. It does not ask you to confirm. This iPhone stops getting push notifications, and the app removes its notifications from Notification Center.

Troubleshooting

”Something went wrong”

The app shows Something went wrong with a message such as “Couldn’t load your chatbots.” and the text “Check your connection, or sign out and back in if this keeps happening.”
  1. Check your internet connection, then select Try again.
  2. If the error stays, sign out and sign in again. The app sign-in is valid for 90 days. After that, you must sign in again.

No push notifications

  • On You, look for the Turn on notifications banner. If it shows, iOS notifications are off for SiteGPT. Tap the banner and allow notifications.
  • On You > Notifications, make sure that the setting is on. New conversation is off by default.
  • If the chatbot sends escalation emails to a custom list, only the owner and team members on that list get the Handover requested push. Add your email address to the list. See Escalation emails.

”For team accounts”

The screen says “The SiteGPT app is available to SiteGPT team accounts. Sign in with an account that belongs to your team.” Your account is only on the Starter plan, or it has no plan. To use the app, do one of these:
  • Select Use a different email and sign in with an account on the Growth plan and above.
  • Ask a chatbot owner to invite you as a team member. See Team members.
  • Upgrade your plan. See Manage your plan and billing.

Check that it works

  1. In your chatbot preview on the dashboard, send a message.
  2. In the app, open Inbox. The new conversation shows.
  3. Open it, select Take over conversation, and send a reply. The reply shows in the preview.
  4. Select Back to AI. The preview shows “Continuing with AI while waiting for human support”.
