Use this guide to teach your chatbot what is said in your YouTube videos. SiteGPT adds the transcript of each video. It does not add the video title, description, audio, or images.

Before you start

  • An active plan. Each plan has a page limit. See Plans and limits.
  • The Super Admin, Admin, or Manager role on the chatbot. Agents cannot add content.
  • The video, playlist, or channel URLs.
You do not connect a YouTube account. SiteGPT can read public videos, and unlisted videos when you add the video’s own URL. It cannot read private, members-only, or age-restricted videos, or live streams that are still running.

Add videos

Open the form

In the chatbot sidebar, go to Website Links > Add YouTube Videos.

Paste the URLs

In YouTube URLs, enter one URL per line. See Supported URLs.

Add the videos

Select Add YouTube Content.
The form does not let you enter more URLs than the pages left in your quota. A playlist or channel URL counts as one URL in the form. SiteGPT then adds each video in it as its own item.

Supported URLs

Shorts links (youtube.com/shorts/...), live links, and embed links are not accepted. Use the video’s watch?v= URL instead. URLs must start with https:// or http://. SiteGPT removes duplicate videos from playlists and channels. A channel URL adds up to 30 of the channel’s regular videos. A playlist URL adds up to 100 videos. Shorts and live recordings are not added from channels or playlists. To add more videos, add them by their own URLs.

How videos count toward your quota

Each video uses one page of quota for every 2,500 characters of transcript. A long video can use many pages. If your quota runs out during an import, the remaining videos show Limit Reached.

What the chatbot learns

  • Transcript only. SiteGPT adds the transcript. It does not add the title, description, or chapters.
  • Language. SiteGPT asks for English captions. If a video has no English captions, it adds the captions in the video’s own language. If a video has no captions at all, SiteGPT creates a transcript from the audio.
  • No schedule. YouTube imports do not refresh on a schedule, even if you pick an Auto Sync Frequency in the form. To refresh a video, select it in Links List and select Resync N Selected.
If visitors ask for videos by title, add the titles and links as a text snippet or a file.

Check that it works

  1. Go to Website Links > Links List.
  2. Wait for each video to show Success.
  3. Ask the chatbot about something that is said in one of the videos.

Troubleshooting

SiteGPT could not get a transcript for the video. Point to the Failed badge to see the reason. Check that the video plays in a private browser window without signing in.
A channel URL adds up to 30 videos, and a playlist URL up to 100. Shorts, live recordings, private videos, and unlisted videos are not added this way. Add the missing videos with their own video URLs. Also check your pages left: videos past your limit show Limit Reached.
The chatbot learns from the transcript text. Errors in the transcript become errors in answers. Fix the captions on YouTube, then resync the video. A resync always gets the current captions. To correct one answer fast, add a custom response.
