In this tutorial, you create a chatbot, train it on your website, test it, and add it to your website. At the end, the chatbot answers questions on your own site. You need:
  • An email address.
  • The address of your website, for example https://example.com.
  • Access to your website’s HTML, or to a place in your website builder where you can add a script.
1

Go to sitegpt.ai/login and enter your email address. SiteGPT sends you an email with a sign-in link. Open the link. There is no password. If you do not have an account yet, the link creates one. You see the Chatbots page. You need an active plan to train a chatbot and let it answer visitors. If you do not have a plan yet, choose one at sitegpt.ai/pricing. You can start with a free trial. A credit card is required at checkout, and you can cancel before the trial ends.
2

Create a chatbot

On the Chatbots page, select Create New Chatbot. In Chatbot Name, enter a name that your team will recognize, for example “Website assistant”. Select Create Chatbot.SiteGPT creates the chatbot and opens it. The menu on the left now shows the pages for this chatbot. You can change the name and the look later.
3

Add your website

In the menu, select Website Links > Scrape Website. Fill in the form:
  • Website URL: the address of your home page, for example https://example.com.
  • Recursion Depth: enter 2. This sets how many levels of links SiteGPT follows from your home page.
  • Max Pages to Scrape: enter 50. The help text under the field shows how many pages you have left in your plan. If that number is lower than 50, enter that number.
Keep the other fields as they are. Select Add Links.SiteGPT starts to read your website. You see the Links List with your pages.
If your website has a sitemap, you can use Add from Sitemap instead. For all the options, see Add your website.
4

Wait for training

SiteGPT reads and indexes each page in the background. The cards at the top of the Links List show how many pages are Trained, Pending, and Failed. The list updates on its own. You can leave the page while it works. The time depends on how many pages your website has. Wait until most pages show as trained. If some pages fail, you can continue. You can fix them later. See Add your website.
5

Test your chatbot

In the menu, select Dashboard. The status message says “Your chatbot is live and ready to go!” when training is done.Select Chat with your chatbot. Your chatbot opens on its own chat page. Ask three or four questions that your visitors often ask. For example, ask about your prices, your opening hours, or how to contact you. Each answer comes from your website. Under an answer, the chatbot can show links to the pages it found. If you ask about something that is not on your website, the chatbot usually replies that it does not have enough information.Do not fix answers yet. You do that in Your first week.
6

Add the chatbot to your website

In the menu, select Installation. Under JavaScript Embed, copy the code. It looks like this, with your own chatbot ID:
Paste the code into the HTML of your website, inside the <head> section of every page. Publish the change. If you use WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, or Webflow, follow the steps for your platform in Add the chatbot to your website.
