CustomGPT is a no-code platform for building AI agents that answer from your own content, and it costs $99 a month for the Standard plan or $499 a month for the Premium plan on monthly billing. It fits teams that need several agents trained on large document sets in many file formats. Teams that expect more than 1,000 questions a month, or need an unbranded widget, should price the alternatives below before starting the trial.
TL;DR
  • CustomGPT builds AI agents from websites, help centers, PDFs, Office files, YouTube videos, and audio. It lists support for 1,400+ document formats.
  • Pricing on monthly billing: Standard $99 (10 agents, 1,000 queries) and Premium $499 (25 agents, 5,000 queries). Annual billing is $89 and $449 a month. Enterprise is custom.
  • Both plans work out to about $0.10 per included query. Extra queries cost $375 a month for 2,500, which is $0.15 each.
  • Branding removal, website auto-sync, and the PII anonymizer start on Premium. A data processing agreement, SSO, and the AI model selector are Enterprise only.
  • Among alternatives, SiteGPT fits one customer service chatbot that needs human escalation and more monthly messages at a lower price, from $39 a month billed yearly. It has no free plan and supports far fewer file formats.

What is CustomGPT?

CustomGPT is a no-code platform that turns your business content into AI agents. You connect data, the platform indexes it, and the agent answers questions from that content with a link to the source.
CustomGPT homepage showing the headline about governed AI assistants for the enterprise and a three-step panel of a member question, an assistant response, and a cited answer
CustomGPT homepage showing the headline about governed AI assistants for the enterprise and a three-step panel of a member question, an assistant response, and a cited answer
The CustomGPT.ai homepage describes the product as governed AI assistants for the enterprise and says more than 10,000 organizations use it. The same page lists three selling points: answers grounded in your data, 1,400+ supported document types, and ready-made widgets for deployment.
CustomGPT is a separate company from OpenAI. A custom GPT built inside ChatGPT is a different product. The guide to training ChatGPT on your own data explains where each approach fits.

How does CustomGPT work?

CustomGPT works in two steps, according to its homepage:
  1. Connect data. Add a sitemap, upload files, or connect a source such as Google Drive, Notion, or a Zendesk knowledge base.
  1. Deploy. Embed a widget on a website, deploy to Slack, or call the RAG API from your own application.
Answers come from retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). The agent searches your indexed content for relevant passages and writes a reply from them. CustomGPT markets this as anti-hallucination technology. RAG lowers the rate of invented answers but does not remove it, and the guide to chatbot hallucinations covers the causes.

What features does CustomGPT offer?

CustomGPT offers five feature groups that matter for a buying decision: data ingestion, integrations and sync, answer quality controls, security and compliance, and analytics and support. Every item below comes from the plan comparison on the CustomGPT.ai pricing page.

Data ingestion and limits

CustomGPT trains on these source types on every plan:
  • Business websites, helpdesks, knowledge bases, and public web content
  • PDF documents
  • Office documents such as Word and PowerPoint, plus 1,400+ document formats
  • YouTube videos, audio files, podcasts, and voice recordings
Limits are counted in agents, documents, and words. Words stored are shared across all agents on the account.

CustomGPT gives a rule of thumb for storage: 10 million words is about 50 MB of data. Standard's 60 million words is therefore roughly 300 MB of text.

Integrations and auto-sync

CustomGPT lists these integrations on its pricing page:

Auto-sync is the gap on the entry plan. On Standard, the agent does not re-read a website on its own schedule. Premium adds auto-sync for website content, and Enterprise lists automated real-time sync for all data sources.

Answer quality: citations and model choice

CustomGPT lists citations and sources, anti-hallucination, and privacy controls on every plan. Each response can link to the document it came from.
Model choice is limited on the two self-serve plans. The AI model selector, priority queries, and advanced persona and prompt-length settings are listed on Enterprise only. Standard and Premium list the OpenAI API. Enterprise adds Microsoft Azure OpenAI and Claude models through AWS Bedrock.

Security and compliance

CustomGPT lists SOC2 Type 2 and GDPR compliance on every plan, along with SSL and 256-bit AES encryption. The pricing page also states that customer data is not used for training or shared.
Three items sit higher up:
  • Remove PII / anonymizer: Premium and Enterprise.
  • Data processing agreement: Enterprise only.
  • Custom SSO, role-based access, and private agent deployment: Enterprise only.
A team that must sign a DPA before sending personal data to a vendor needs the Enterprise plan. How other vendors handle this is covered in the guide to GDPR compliant chatbot platforms.

Analytics and support

Standard includes basic analytics and customer intelligence with a 7-day history. Premium and Enterprise keep the full history.
Slack and helpdesk support are listed on every plan. A dedicated account manager, call support, and engineering support are Enterprise only. CustomGPT states that support during the free trial is limited.

How much does CustomGPT cost in 2026?

CustomGPT costs $99 a month for Standard and $499 a month for Premium on monthly billing. Annual billing is 10% lower, at $89 and $449 a month. Enterprise is priced on request. All figures come from the CustomGPT.ai pricing page.

Does CustomGPT have a free plan or free trial?

CustomGPT has no free plan. It offers a 7-day free trial of the plan you pick at signup, and a credit card is required. When the trial ends, the card is charged for that plan unless you cancel from the billing page first.

What add-ons does CustomGPT charge for?

CustomGPT sells five add-ons. The prices below are the ones shown with monthly billing selected.
Add-on
Price

Extra queries
$375 a month for 2,500 queries
$0.15 per query, against about $0.10 inside a plan
Extra word storage

Raises monthly document processing
Extra agents
$100 a month for 25 agents
$4 per extra agent a month
Extra seats
$100 a month for 5 seats
$20 per extra team member a month
Query limits are hard limits. CustomGPT states that when an account reaches its query limit, the agents stop responding to queries. When it reaches the word limit, the system stops indexing new data.

What does CustomGPT cost at your volume?

The table below does the math for five query volumes on monthly billing. It picks the cheapest setup at each volume and adds query packs at $375 for 2,500.

What are CustomGPT's pros and cons?

Pros

  • Wide format support. The pricing page lists 1,400+ document formats, plus YouTube, audio, and podcasts.
  • Ten agents on the entry plan. Standard includes 10 agents, and 25 more cost $100 a month.
  • Large storage. Standard holds 60 million words and Premium holds 300 million.
  • Citations on every plan. Each answer can link to its source document.
  • API on the entry plan. RAG API access is included in Standard.
  • SOC2 Type 2 and GDPR on every plan. Neither is held back for Enterprise.
  • A short commitment to test. The trial runs 7 days before the first charge.

Cons

  • Low query allowance. Standard includes 1,000 queries a month for $99.
  • Expensive overage. Extra queries cost $0.15 each, 50% more than the in-plan rate.
  • A hard stop at the limit. Agents stop answering when the query limit is reached.
  • Branding removal needs Premium. That is $400 a month more than Standard, or $4,800 over 12 months on monthly billing.
  • No auto-sync on Standard. Website auto-sync starts on Premium.
  • No model choice below Enterprise. The AI model selector is Enterprise only.
  • DPA is Enterprise only. Standard and Premium do not list a data processing agreement.
  • No free plan. The trial requires a credit card.

What do users say about CustomGPT?

CustomGPT holds 4.0 out of 5 on G2 from 1 review. The review is dated 3 October 2024 and comes from a verified user at a small non-profit.
That reviewer praised how easy it is to upload training material from almost any source. The same reviewer disliked that the agent did not remember earlier conversations.
One review is too small a base to rely on. CustomGPT publishes customer stories on its own site, and those are vendor-selected. Run the 7-day trial on your own content before judging answer quality.

Who should use CustomGPT?

CustomGPT is a good fit if you:
  • Need several agents for different teams, clients, or document sets
  • Hold content in many file formats, including video and audio
  • Want citations on every answer for research or internal knowledge use
  • Plan to build on a RAG API as well as a widget
  • Expect fewer than 1,000 questions a month, or have the budget for Premium
CustomGPT is a poor fit if you:
  • Run a public website chatbot that gets several thousand questions a month
  • Need an unbranded widget on a budget under $499 a month
  • Need content to re-sync automatically on an entry plan
  • Need a signed DPA without an Enterprise contract
  • Want a free plan to test on

What are the best CustomGPT alternatives?

The best CustomGPT alternative depends on why you are looking elsewhere. No tool here is best overall. Each row names the case it fits.
The ranking uses three criteria that match the limits above: how much usage the entry plan includes, what an unbranded widget costs, and whether a free option exists.
